great great grandmother tries to flower

The great great grandmother of which many of the aloes in my room have come forth from.... is trying to flower again. This is its second attempt. Last year we celebrated the bloom, then sadly it did not open in any kind of glory. The flowers were dry and brown. Anybody know why?

Not a glorious orange, which I had hoped for. But the bud is way cool...

I have no idea why the bloom dried up. But I have heard these plants die when they flower? So maybe it is better it does not.

Tina--- a quick search seemed to indicate they do not die. I saw something about agaves dieing. The plant is getting too big for my classroom, but that is no reason to die.

Ha! No reason to die at all. It must be the agaves I am thinking of. Not my specialty at all. Good luck with it.

Wow! The bud looks awesome. I've never seen one before! In fact, I've never seen the Aloe blooming! Would you believe that?

Getting everyone excited for the big event, and then a no show! Bad plant!!
Some agavaes die after dropping their seeds to make new plants, but most don't. Maybe some kind of plant stress? Plants usually keep trying to reproduce if until they are successful, so hopefully it will bloom again soon.

Chandramouli-- I have seen some aloes in bloom but not in my classroom.

Tina... thanks for the hope of good things happening.

Susan--- It has not done the repeat of last year, but the buds have not opened yet. But it is way cool as it is right now.

I'm thinking sun, sun and more sun. Aloe grows like weeds where I am (Tampa, Fla.) and all they want is sun and no water: neglect and the great hot outdoors. I wonder if your aloe hasn't gotten enough sun during your cold winter.

Penny... I've got it in a south window, the best I can do here, which may not be good enough, or maybe it will be.
